This time of the year always has me thinking about Christmas and decorating for the holidays. I started early for Halloween, decorating the last week of September. I knew it was early ... but I couldn't help myself! Now its half way through November and I sheepishly got out my Christmas decorations last night. I put up some tinsel, my favorite vase, and put a Christmas scarf on my doggie, Tootsie. (I didn't name him)
I didn't go to any extremes: I didn't get out the outside lights to put on display yet and my fall wreath is still hanging on the front porch so my neighbors don't know what I'm doing! Proof right here!
I should be allowed to start putting up my Christmas decorations when the stores do. All the major retail stores have Christmas decorations already completely up.
Which has me thinking....
When is the fashionable time to decorate for Christmas?
When I was a child, my mom always said after Thanksgiving is the safe zone. We used to make it a tradition to set the Christmas tree up the night after Thanksgiving. I still try to hold true to this tradition. I decided not to bring in the Christmas tree last night and wait until after Thanksgiving. That poses a problem though because of Black Friday.
Black Friday has become the NEW tradition instead of Thanksgiving. Retail stores open earlier and earlier each year. Once again, when I was a child going at 4AM for Black Friday shopping seemed taboo. Now we start shopping for Black Friday on Thanksgiving Thursday! A few stores have leaked when they plan to open this year;
Sears and Wal-Mart - 8PM ON THANKSGIVING
Toys R Us - 8 PM also!
Best Buy - 12AM
Getting back to my original point. When is the time to decorate for holidays? Is it taboo to decorate too early or is it taboo to shop to early for Black Friday?
When do you decorate for Christmas and other holidays???
